Walking Tours

You get a very different view of things with Breakaway Adventures on a walking, hiking or trekking tour.  Discovering the countryside at your own pace, on foot, you will get to know the place you have chosen intimately and absorb the sights, the scents and the atmosphere in a way you never could behind the wheel of an automobile. All this as well as experiencing some of the world's finest hiking on self-guided or escorted tours.

Breakaway Adventures offers you more walking tours in Europe, North, Central and South America than ever before, from gentle rambles across sun-drenched hillsides to challenging mountain, gorge and ridge hikes. And everything in between! You can get right off the beaten track walking in Umbria or the Swiss Alps. In tourist "hotspots" like Tuscany, the Loire and Provence, you’ll walk to places tourists seldom see. And on our wildlife walking tours, you'll study nature and the world's most iconic animals up close in their natural habitats. You can explore bear territories in Romania, come within a hair’s breadth of an orangutan on a rainforest trail, or challenge yourself with a trek through clouds to a volcanic crater.

In many areas we think our independent (self-guided) tours are the best way to get a real experience of the country. Unless you have a lot of time to do your own planning, and patience, you’ll appreciate our meticulous research and trip design with carefully chosen routes picked for trailside interest. And at the end of each walk, charming country inns provide the authentic flavor of each region.

You travel inn to inn while we move your bags, moving every day or every other day. For those who never want to unpack a suitcase, there are center-based tours as well. And if you prefer the camaraderie of a group, we offer selected escorted tours for small groups (typically 6-12 people).

All that remains is to view our extensive selection of destinations and decide what appeals to you most!
