What Does “Independent” Mean on My Cycling and Walking Tour?
Here at Breakaway Adventures, we offer several different types of tours. We offer guided walking tours, on which a guide will walk with you and a small group, either from destination to destination or on outings from a single center. But we also offer many independent tours, both independent cycling and independent walking tours.
So what exactly does an “independent tour” mean? The first thing to remember is that an independent Breakaway Adventures tour is definitely not unsupported. On the duration of your trip, our staff is just a phone call away, ready to assist you.
First, our local staff will greet you at the airport or train station and help transport you to your first hotel (which we’ve also carefully selected to make sure you have the best trip possible). So you won’t have to deal with language barriers, unfamiliar signage, or any other stressors that often make getting started on an international voyage overwhelming.
Then we’ll walk you through a briefing session, where we’ll answer any questions you might have and go over all the details with you. We’ll tell you about all the things you can see and do on your trip so you can customize it exactly how you see fit. You may also meet the other people who are taking the same trip you are, and while you’re free to go at your own pace, if you meet some like-minded folks (as many on these trips do), you’re welcome to meet up again or even travel together; the choice is yours.
Throughout your independent walking or cycling tour, you’ll move on to a new hotel every two days, and we’ll handle the transport of your luggage. You don’t have to haul heavy packs with you, just enough to carry the food and water you’ll want for the day’s walk.
While it’s rare that problems arise, we are always just a phone call away to help with any problems that may come up, whether it’s a medical issue, a problem with your bike, or a concern about your hotel. For the most part though, our travelers don’t have any issues to report. They simply enjoy the schedule of every other day travel, which provides plenty of opportunities for exploring the charming communities and countryside that surrounds the hotels they’re staying at. And of course some simply use their off days to get some rest and relaxation—the choice is all yours on our independent holidays.
