This is a real gem of a walk, full of contrasting experiences, dramatic sceney and outstanding natural beauty. Towering mountain peaks, plunging river valleys, dense natural forests and picturesque mountain villages. It's like lots of mini-holiday experiences all rolled into one !
The walk starts in Piana, une des plus beau villages en France, its cluster of pink houses affording superb views out over the Calanche. The path hugs the natural curve of the bay and, for the first couple of walking days, the turquoise sea is never far away. Heading inland, you'll be walking through secret lemon groves, pine-clad forests and at the side of pretty mountain streams filled with playful baby trout. Your last two nights are spent in Corte, the historic old capital, in the very heart of the island. Surrounded by mountains, and at the head of the Restonica and Tavignano Valleys, it's a mecca for keen walkers.
The hotels we've chosen for this holiday are all run with a personal touch, usually by the owners and their families. One of our favourites is in Evisa, a charming mountain village in the heart of the National Park, and another overlooks the famous Calanche and exudes real fin de siècle charm. In both Evisa and Corte, the hotels have private swimming pools however you’ll find places to swim in nearly everywhere, in swimming pools, in rivers or in the numerous emerald rock pools, dotted throughout the region.
