New for 2012, this fabulously varied independent walking holiday explores the stunning white limestone cliffs, deep valleys, colorful fishing villages and vibrant cities of southwest Provence. Known locally as La Cote Bleue, it's a landscape sculpted by nature, rich in history and bleached by eternal sun!
You'll begin your holiday with two nights in the elegant university town of Aix-en-Provence, birthplace of Cezanne, and famed for its beautiful squares, fountains and tree-lined boulevards. From here, you'll walk up the iconic Montagne Sainte-Victoire, before heading on to France's oldest city, Marseille, and your perfectly positioned hotel near the Vieux Port. Time to explore the bustling harbour and ancient old town as well as the fascinating Frioul Archipelago with its ruined forts, towers and castles - lots of beautiful bays too if you fancy a swim. You'll spend your final three nights in the picture-postcard fishing village of Cassis, and discover the famously deep creeks and inlets of Les Calanques - accessible only on foot or by boat. Your hotel is just two minutes from the harbour, and breakfasts afford unforgettable views over France's highest sea cliffs - the 400m-high Cap Canaille.
Throughout, you'll stay in a range of modern, stylish *** hotels, specifically chosen for their fabulous locations. We've included evening meals in Marseilles, but left you free to choose where to dine in Aix and Cassis - with so many restaurants on your doorstep, you really are spoiled for choice!
