The Troodos Mountains

Cyprus is an island of outstanding natural beauty. Away from the cosmopolitan towns and beach resorts you will find large areas of natural, unspoilt countryside. Rugged, pine-clad mountains, woodland and gentle orchards and vineyards are interspersed with tranquil, timeless villages. The people extend a warm and friendly welcome and their hospitality will add greatly to the enjoyment of your tour. In mid to late March Cyprus comes into bloom with a profusion of exquisite, wild flowers. The island’s position on one of the major migratory routes means that it becomes a stopover for many species of birds during their migrations, particularly in April.

We start our tour at Pedoulas Village, high in the Troodos Mountains. On day 2 you make a circular walk from Pedoulas via Moutoulas and its 13th century church, enjoying wonderful scenery and some spectacular views. You continue from Pedoulas through the delightful Platy Valley to the village of Milikouri. Your next day’s walk starts at the Monastery of Kykko and on through dense natural forests in Cedar Valley to Stavros tis Psokas. This entire area is the habitat of Moufflon, a horned sheep unique to Cyprus. You descend from the Troodos through the beautiful, narrow valley of Stavros, and the small, traditional villages of Simou and Miliou to the pretty little village of Kato Akourdaleia. The walk now continues through a gentler landscape of vineyards and citrus groves passing the tiny, but lovely Byzantine church of Ayia Paraskevi, and on to the pleasant village of Drouseia. From Drouseia you descend the spectacularly dramatic Avagas Gorge to the west coast on the way to the small fishing harbour of Agios Georgios tis Pegeias.

Akamas Peninsula Extension
This tour can be extended to 11 days, with 3 nights at a 2-star hotel on Chryoschou Bay on the northern side of the Akamas Peninsula. The Akamas affords a variety of scenery and breathtaking views and you can visit the well known beauty spot known as the Baths of Aphrodite, then walk back to your hotel vis the deserted village of Androlikou. The final walk takes you to the High Akamas on a circular route through the villages of Smiyies and Mouti Sotiras.
