Beatrix Potter Movie, Books Come to Life on Walking Tour

MT. PLEASANT, S.C.- A tour offered by Breakaway Adventures, a company that specializes in fully-supported independent walking and cycling tours of Europe, lets travelers explore the fairytale setting of England’s Lake District, which serves as the backdrop for a new movie about Beatrix Potter and the inspiration for the famous children’s author’s beloved tales."Miss Potter,” starring Renée Zellweger and Ewan McGregor, is a romantic story that chronicles Potter’s rise to become one of the most successful children’s authors in history.

Breakaway Adventures’ English Lake District Walk lets travelers step into the real-life settings of many of Potter’s famous stories written when she lived in the area during the early 1900s. The region also inspired several other artists and writers, including Alfred Wainwright and William Wordsworth, who wrote several poems about the area. Sites on the tour include peaceful lakes, rolling hills and valleys, mountain views, quaint farms and pastures and small villages. Guests on the tour stay at a variety of charming country inns, family-run guest houses and historic hotels (one even 400 years old) - all serving local cuisine.

The self-guided, eight-day walking tour runs from Apr. 8-Oct. 15, 2007 for a cost of $1,384 per person. Guests travel at their own pace without a guide, but with a local staff member always on call to assist as needed and move luggage from place to place. Travelers meet at the beginning of the tour for a briefing and question and answer session where they receive a detailed itinerary with maps and visual pointers to guide them. Two guided walking tours of the region are also available on May 12 and Sept. 1, 2007 for $1,434 per person. All rates are for double occupancy and include lodging and breakfast. Airfare is not included.

“This tour of the beautiful English countryside shows you the world of Beatrix Potter and what inspired her to write such magical stories that have captivated so many generations,” says Michael Carson, co-owner of Breakaway Adventures. “While you may not see Peter Rabbit, you will see delightful country inns, charming villages and secluded forests that could easily be lifted right out of the pages of her books.”

Breakaway Adventures is a tour company that offers relaxed overseas getaways where guests can walk, cycle, trek or barge through the back roads of 30 countries, including Italy, France, Greece and Great Britain. Specializing in self-guided and fully-supported independent tours, the company provides the highest level of service to its customers, managing all the details so they can focus on the adventure at hand.
