Combine glorious Alpine panoramas with beautiful sun-kissed lakeshores, with a wide range of activities, and you have the perfect ingredients for a fun-filled family holiday!
You stay in the picturesque Austrian village of Strobl, on the eastern shore of Lake Wolfgang, and one of the prettiest spots in the region. During your time here, you can be as active, or not, as you choose, as we provide a wide selection of fully researched independent walking and cycling choices (maps and detailed route notes - typically at 1 boot and 1 bike level - included). To ensure total flexibility, we will give you a complimentary Breakaway bike for your exclusive use throughout your stay. There’s also an excellent local bus/ ferry/ cable car service linking the local lakes and villages.
A full range of watersports can also be booked and paid for locally, with tuition available for beginners. Alternatively, perhaps take a trip on one of the many lake cruisers (hopping on and off at leisure at the numerous jetty points) and soak up the views from the water. There’s also a natural wide beach for sunbathing. Take time too to visit Mozart’s magical city of Salzburg: stroll through the Mirabell Gardens, lunch in an atmospheric cobbled square, then take the funicular to Hohensalzburg Fortress for the most amazing city views.
You stay as guests of Frau Zopf and family at the **** Bergrose Hotel. Set just back from the river, and less than 5 minutes’ cycle from the lake, it’s a calm and relaxing place to stay. All of the 30 spacious bedrooms are beautifully and individually decorated and the perfectly crafted wooden panelling – so typical of this region –extends right through the hotel. The attention to quality and detail is second-to-none too in the hotel’s beamed dining room. Chef Paul’s creations include delicacies such as carpaccio of beef with chanterelles mushrooms, grated parmesan and lime-infused olive oil. The menu relies heavily on fresh local produce, so expect to taste aromatic wild herbs and garlic straight from the hotel’s gardens.
