This guided walking vacation explores the dramatic scenery of the undiscovered Western Coast of Mallorca where rugged limestone cliffs and turquoise bays are framed by the backdrop of the craggy Tramuntana mountains. The walking is surprisingly varied, following paths laid down in ancient times, by drovers, brigands and shepherds. In other places, you follow routes marked by the island’s charcoal-burners, and the snow-gatherers who would gather snow on the mountain tops in the winter, compress it and sell it as ice in the summer months. Traveling with our knowledgeable guide, you’ll enjoy mountain top vistas and coastal panoramas during the week. Highlights include descending to 13C Lluc monastery from Puig de Massanella (Mallorca’s second highest peak), contemplating the azure coastline above Sóller from our picnic spot near the olive groves and exploring the honey colored houses of the artists’ village of Deiŕ.

Framed by the backdrop of the Tramuntana mountains, yet connected to the sea at Port Sóller by a tram, the old village of Sóller makes the perfect base for your stay. Our elegant hotel here, the former 19C residence of a local bishop, is just a stone’s throw from the main square. With walled garden, outdoor pool, sauna and jacuzzi it’s the perfect place to relax after a day’s walk. You’ll also enjoy sampling Sóller’s laid back cafés and exploring its twisting streets lined with the wooden shuttered, grilled mansions of 19C fruit merchants. Dinner is taken in the hotel’s atmospheric dining room (a converted olive press), and lunches will either be freshly prepared picnics or tapasin the villages that we pass through.
