Just an hours drive north of Venice, in the foothills of the Dolomites, is one of the worlds best yet largely undiscovered wine regions. Here ancient terraced vineyards clinging to the sides of every possible slope are dedicated exclusively to grapes for Italy's most prized sparkling wine: Prosecco.
Based in an elegant converted villa, located in the heart of the so called 'Prosecco Road' - Italy's oldest wine route - we spend a week walking through picturesque rolling hills and sampling the areas delicious cuisine and authentic bubbles. We also visit charming medieval villages such as Cison, Follina, Asolo as well as the beautiful capital province of Treviso.
We'll visit one of the best local producers of Prosecco for a wine-tasting and learn about the wine-making process. And, on your free day you'll have the option to relax by the hotel's pool (seasonal) or take a trip to stunning Venice.
The local food of the Prosecco has strong links to ancient traditions and uses mainly seasonal products grown in the area. It is typical country cooking, with plenty of delicious, genuine flavors, and makes great use of garden vegetables, herbs, wild berries, wild mushrooms, asparagus, game and cheeses. For breakfast, the hotel offers a large selection of cereals, fruit, homemade cakes, cheese and cold meats, along with tea and coffee of course. Packed lunches are normally provided for the walks, and consist of sandwiches with a fruit and snack. There is a set menu for evening meals taken at the hotel, which normally includes three courses and local specialities prepared using fresh seasonal ingredients. During the week there will be also opportunities to try some of the best local restaurants in the area which offer authentic cuisine and delicious homemade dishes such as 'spiedo' (spit roasted meat), wild mushroom risotto, gnocchi, mouth-watering handmade cured meats and cheeses, all washed down with prime quality Prosecco!
