Secret Villages of Mallorca

Day 1: Arrive in Mallorca
We meet you at the airport and take you to Orient (40 mins) in time for dinner.

Day 2: Comassema Valley Walk 8mi/14km/5hr
From the sleepy hamlet of Orient, a forest trail takes you past curious sitjas (charcoal burning circles used by the first settlers) as you head deep into the beautiful Comassema Valley. It’s then a gradualclimb through holm oaks up to the Puig d’Amos - an excellent picnic spot affording stunning viewsout across to Palma and the Mediterranean sea. It’s then back through olives to Orient, a tiny hamlet with just 18 inhabitants, in time for a swim before dinner.

Day 3: Castell d'Alaro 6mi/10km/3hr
A gentle ascent through holm oaks leads to Castell d’Alaró clinging to the steep hillside. Time to visitthe remains of Mallorca’s most impregnable Moorish fortress (Christian crusaders laid siege here forover two years) and drink in the bird’s eye views as far as Pollensa to the north, and the Tramuntanamountain range to the west. The best lunch option today is oven baked lamb at Es Verger mountain restaurant before walking through the terraces to your hotel in time for a swim before dinner.

Day 4: Alaro Circular Walk 6mi/9.5km/4hr
A little-walked circular route through woodland and valleys following the old paths once used by charcoal burners.   Panoramic views of the Bay of Palma as you descend to the sleepy market town of Alaro.  Maybe stop for a drink in the main square before heading up through the olive groves of the S'Estret Valley and back to Orient.

Day 5: Orient to Sóller  12km/7mi/4hr

We take you to Lake Cuber to begin today's walk.  Black vultures and red kites soar over the greeny blue lake shore as you walk under the shadow of Sa Rateta and L'Offre peaks - the twon molar like hills that crown the horizon - to Coll de l'Offre from where you are rewarded with stunning views over Port Soller framed by limestone cliffs.  Stroll through the citrus groves to our hotel in Soller, a stone's throw from the bustling main square.

Day 6: Deiŕ to Sóller  12km/7mi/4hr

We give you a lift to the artist’s village Deiŕ, perched in the foothills of the Tramuntana mountains. Time to explore its vine covered café terraces and admire sweeping coastal views from its parish church (the writer, Robert Graves is buried here) before heading out through almond groves towards Sóller. The Tramuntana mountains frame the horizon as you descend to Mico’s farm for a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice before arriving at your hotel, and a late afternoon swim.

Day 7:  Sóller Coastal Walk  9km/6mi/3.5hr or 15km/10mi/4.5hr

Take the tram to the port (pay locally) and walk along the coast leaving the bustle of the port behind you. Follow an old smugglers path to the Coll de Cordellina perched above the Belitx Valley. Alternatively you could walk to Mallorca’s prettiest village, Fortnalutx, with its peached coloured houses and cobbled streets, and on through orange groves to neighbouring Biniariax before heading back to Sóller.

Day 8: Return home
We take you to Palma airport for flights home or extra nights in the capital.
