Undiscovered Mallorca Walk
Day 1: Arrive in Sóller
We meet you at Palma airport and take you to your hotel (40 mins) in time for dinner.
Day 2: Banyalbufar and Esporles 11km/7mi/4hr
We drive to the pretty little village of Banyalbufar where our walk begins. Passing through orange and olive groves, we then join the Cam d’es Correu, an old cobbled path once used by postmen for delivering mail by mule! Our route then climbs gently through oak and pine forest, before dropping down to the charming village of Esporles where we lunch at Toni’s - reputed by locals to serve the best paellaon the island! Time to explore the fascinating C13 baroque church before heading back to Sóller in time for a swim before dinner.
Day 3: Balitx Valley and Cala Tuent 14km/8mi/4hr
Starting at the Mirador ses Barques - commanding stunning views over Port Sóller and the rugged coastline below - we pass through almond groves and bubbling springs (remnants of the Moorish irrigation system dating from 900AD) as we ascend the Coll de Binimair. Breathtaking sea views make this an excellent picnic spot. Descending through rosemary and myrtle we reach Cala Tuent beach in time for a swim. It’s then back by ferry to Sóller (40 mins), returning to our hotel in time for dinner.
Day 4: Lluc Monastery Walk 14km/8mi/5hr
A short drive to Lake Cuber in the heart of the Tramuntana mountain range. Then, with ospreys and red footed falcons cruising the thermals, a forest path leads past the blue green waters of Lake Gorg Blau to skirt around Massannella, Mallorca’s second highest peak. Hopefully we’ll spot the rare black vulture here before descending along an old pigrims’ path to Lluc. The 13C monastery here is Mallorca’s most important site of pilgrimage.
Day 5: Free day
You could follow a panoramic path to Port Sóller, or maybe take Mallorca’s narrow gauge railway into Palma and explore its Gothic cathedral, Renaissance city walls and impressive Moorish palace. The narrow streets of its old town or the attractive marina and harbour front make great lunch spots.
Day 6: Archduke’s Bridal Path 15km/9mi/7hr
Minibus to Valldemossa, a picturesque village with a magnificent monastery, once home to Chopin. Then a circuit of the breathtaking mountain scenery to the north of the village. We follow the bridle path which runs along dramatic cliffs leading to the Refuge of the Archduke, a romantically ruined old stone house with spectacular views over the whole island. We return along a wooded valley of waterfalls, olive and almond groves.
Day 7: Sóller to Deià 11km/7mi/4hr
We leave Sóller’s elegant 19C stone houses behind, to climb through orange and lemon orchards high into the Sóller valley. Then, a cobbled path ascends through olive groves affording excellent coastal views before dipping down to beautiful Deià. For centuries, the quality of light, intensity of colours, and labyrinthe of hidden alleys have attracted artists to this picturesque village and Robert Graves is buried in the village church. There’s time to admire its pastel coloured houses, vine covered café terraces before we return to Sóller for our farewell dinner.
Day 8: Leave for Palma after breakfast
We take you to the airport in time for your return flight or stay on in Palma for extra nights.
Please note that the customer will have to pay for a special transfer in order to have extra nights at Soller. All extra night prices are per person, per night based on 2 people sharing a double room.
