Secrets of Siena Cycling
If you have 10 days to spend in Tuscany, then we think this holiday has it all - mediaeval villages, hilltop towns, Renaissance churches and Roman remains. Taking in the lush, verdant plains of the Val di Chiana on the shore of Lake Trasimeno, and the gently rolling ochre-colored hills and vineyards of the Val d’Orcia - a UNESCO world heritage site since 2004. You pedal mostly follow small traffic- free strade bianche , as you follow our scenically beautiful and culturally rich cycling routes. Highlights include Hannibal’s battlefield by the shores of Trasimeno, the idealized Renaissance Pienza, and hilltop Montalcino and Montepulciano with their medieval fortresses and beautiful Cortona, full of Romanesque palaces and Etruscan tombs. The great art treasures of Perugia and Siena can easily be reached on free days by bus or train. There are many hidden gems include sleepy Montefollonico in the heart of the Creti Senesi, and the prestigious wine capital, Montepulciano - home to some of the worlds most famous Italina fine wines.
