Gastronomic Barolo Cycling

*  Beautifully scenic cycling: vineyards, hazelnut groves, sun-drenched hamlets untouched by tourism

Luxury hotels: panoramic pools, elegant lounges, gourmet cuisine; outstanding wines at exceptional prices!

World-famous wines: Barolo, Barbaresco, Moscato and Dolcetto

Mediaeval Neive: one of the prettiest villages in Italy

Historic castles, frescoed chapels, honey-coloured  atmospheric squares

This relaxed independent cycling holiday explores the undiscovered Langhe region of Piedmont, just south of Turin. A scattering of hamlets nestle amongst softly rolling hills draped with rows of vines and peppered with Savoy castles. Dramatic Alpine peaks seem to float ethereally amongst the clouds as they encircle the Langhe’s quilted patchwork of vineyards, colourful splashes of sunflowers and lush hazelnut groves.

Each cycling day is varied and mainly follows quiet country roads; your route starts in the lush chestnut hills and winds its way through terraces of swaying vines, verdant pine forests and alongside the lazy meandering Tanaro river to discover sun-dappled hilltop hamlets and ancient castles. The region boasts an incredible array of fine wines, including Barbaresco and Barolo, which you visit en-route. There are also plenty of gastronomic delights that you can try and buy along the way too, including tangy cheeses and sought-after truffles. Highlights include tasting wine in Barbaresco’s lively piazza, exploring Alba’s crimson cobbled streets (and trying some local chocolate!), drinking in Alpine views as you freewheel towards Treiso, bathing in Acqui Terme’s thermal spas and strolling amongst the tangle of streets and geranium-decked houses of Monforte d’Alba’s wonderful centre.

The hotels we’ve chosen for this holiday are, quite simply, fabulous: in Castiglione Tinella you’re the guest of Claudia and Roberto at their 11-room country house with a breathtakingly panoramic pool; in Benevello our **** hotel is a stunningly restored 19C family villa, complete with its own frescoed chapel.  You’ll enjoy gastronomic menus everywhere: mostly you’ll dine at your hotel, if not, at a specially selected restaurant close by. All offer the most amazing wines at incredible value-for-money prices.
