Bring me sunshine

Don’t let the cold, dark nights bring you down this winter. There’s plenty of sunshine still to be had – you just need to know where to look…

The Algarve is one of Europe’s top winter sun destinations, enjoying warm temperatures from September right through to May. We’re talking golden sandy beaches, pretty fishing villages and rugged cliff tops, not to mention some great courses for the keen golfer. Highlights include the Sagres Peninsula – with its iconic cliff-top lighthouse – located on the Algarve’s south-west tip and a great spot for scenic coastal walks, birdwatching and beautiful sunsets, while the lively town of Lagos, encircled by C14 walls, is a delight to explore, its winding cobbled lanes offering wonderful architectural gems and a number of bars to relax in.

Andalucia is Spain’s southernmost region and is quintessential Spain at its very best, a mix of whitewashed hamlets, Moorish castles, glorious sandy beaches and lively tapas bars – it’s also the home of Spanish traditions such as flamenco. Must-visits include Jerez, with its charming cobbled alleys, Baroque churches and lively bars serving up sherry, tapas and a fabulous flamenco beat, and Cádiz, Europe’s oldest continuously inhabited city with a wonderful array of historic sights revealing its Roman, Moorish and New World influences, along with endless pristine beaches.

Walk the Algarve’s Wild West

Walk beside the crashing Atlantic, look out from Cabo de Sao Vicente, Europe’s most south-westerly point and relax in an eclectic mix of hotels from a rustic village conversion to a chic 4-star hotel.
